Songwriter's Tales with Scotty Fraizer
Many songwriters take the gig economy route, but as those of you who know me know, I am a teacher and songwriter when I get the chance. It takes a toll at times, but love of music always prevails. The same can be said for the next “Songwriter’s Tales” featured artist. Scotty Fraizer is a mechanic by day and songwriter by night. This was one of my first opportunities to get to know Scotty a little deeper as we are typically two over-worked ships passing each other in the nightly rounds.

To break the ice, I started by asking where Scotty was at in his musical journey. Scotty started with, “I started playing guitar at the young age of 14, however I didn't start writing my own songs until just 2 months before moving to Tennessee back in the fall of 2023.” I followed up with, what made you start songwriting, and he replied, “ What made me start songwriting was that was the one musical muscle I had never really exercised before after having been playing guitar and singing for almost 14 years, and I wanted to write something that didn't come from anyone else but me. It gave me another outlet to be creative and get my voice heard” That’s similar to my own songwriting journey as really it all started with challenging myself with can I write a song? Can I write a song that’s blues? Can I write a story song? Meeting the different challenges is part of the thrill.

One highlight from Scotty’s musical journey is, “A highlight of my time in the musical world would be recently getting invited to play my first ever round outside of Nashville, all the way up in Terre Haute, Indiana. What made it a highlight for me was not only getting to travel to play somewhere that wasn't nearby Nashville for the first time ever, but also getting to do it with other songwriters who I consider to be some of the best friends I have ever made in my life. The overall experience for me was incredible.”
Now to my favorite question to ask any songwriter on “Songwriter’s Tales” is all about learning about a song that’s special to the artist. Scotty’s special song according to him is, “There is a song I play out pretty regularly that I had written completely by myself called "One More Night With You" and I always preface it by saying it's about the one who got away. I wrote it about another songwriter from out of town who I was seriously crushing on at the time and the part that hits so hard is her and I only get to see each other once or twice a year since she doesn't live anywhere near Nashville.”

What’s up next for Scotty? “So as of right now my goals for the next 5 years or sooner would be recording and releasing my very first single and getting to feature one of my cowriters as a featured artist on it, as well as eventually working on recording and releasing an EP of my own.”

When he does release this EP, I will be sure to bring him back to Songwriter’s Tales to tell us all about the songs. You can follow more on what Scotty is doing on instagram @scottyfraizerofficial and Facebook.
